Charles was my Great Uncle Chuck. When I was young I thought he had the best job ever. He is responsible for bringing my parents Norman (Skinny) Ross of Chetopa, KS & Colleen Gregory of Flint.. My Dad and Uncle Chuck served in WW2 together. Uncle Chuck thought a lot of my Dad and told him he had an 18 year old niece back in Michigan he should meet. Dad wrote to her and soon found she was 14, but looked like she was 18. So they wrote back and forth. When Dad got out of the Army, went to KS to see his parents and then he came to Michigan to meet Colleen. She was 16 or 17, she had promised her mother who was dying of TB, that she would graduate from high school. So June 1947 she graduated, July 1947 my parents married. A year later, (Norman) John was born, and 14 years later they adopted me, Gregory Eugene. I would have been born even if they had not married, but I would not have had the pleasure of receiving all their love and support. When Dad died in 2012 they had been married 65.5 years. Mom is 90 and lives with me. She always had a special place for her Uncle Chuck. They grew up together being only 4 years apart. In my humble opinion Uncle Chuck was a great match maker as well as my great Uncle. He will be missed by many. We love all of the family and especially Aunt Dottie.
