Obituary of Ruby Annelle Roe

Ruby Annelle Roe, 79, of Tucson, Arizona, passed away on Friday, October 25, at Cascades of Tucson, after a prolonged illness.

Born December 14, 1939, in Toomsboro, Wilkinson County, Georgia, she was the daughter of Theordore Ward and Mary Lord Marchant.

Ruby attended Lanier Miller High School, in Macon, Georgia.  She married Alvin Ray Roe on January 21, 1957 in Macon, Georgia at the 2nd Baptist Church. She traveled the United States with Alvin and their family as he transferred from base to base in the United States Air Force before retiring here in Tucson.

She became interested in the healthcare field after studying first aid, being a Red Cross volunteer, and helping with the Girl Scout’s, and wanted to do something in that field. She obtained her GED and went on to graduate with an Associate’s Degree as a Registered Nurse from Pima Community College in December of 1975. She worked in that capacity at several Tucson hospitals before retiring in 1990 due to physical disabilities. 

After her retirement, she and Alvin loved to travel in their RV. They took fishing trips and spent time with their daughter Jaime, and her family in West Virginia.

Ruby was preceded in death by her parents Theodore Ward of Thomaston, Georgia, her mother Mary Lord Marchant of Macon, Georgia, her step mother Louise Hayward Ward of Thomaston, Georgia, her sister Dorothy Ward Carden of Gray, Georgia, her younger brother Bobby Sessoms, and her youngest daughter Melanie Anne Roe of Tucson, Arizona.

She is survived by her husband, Alvin R. Roe of Tucson, Arizona, daughters Pamela (Phillip) Lancaster, of Tucson, Arizona, and Jaime (Jim) Hegedusich of Shepherdstown, West Virginia, and son Scott (Olsen Hancock) Roe of Corona de Tucson, Arizona. She is also survived by ten grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren who loved her very much. In addition, she is survived by her sister, Ernestine Sears, of Helena, Montana, and her brother William Paul Ward, of the Philippine Islands. 

A private service will be held Wednesday, October 30, 2019, for close family and friends at Bring’s Broadway Chapel, in Tucson, Arizona.
