I don't know where to begin, because Doc played such an important role in my life. I met this incredible man 36 years ago when I went to work at an appraisal office where he. worked. Doc moved onto a different appraisal company, and let me know they were looking for an appraisal secretary, I followed him over there, where I worked with him for 8 years. He was such an inspiration to me, and always had such warm, gentle advice. Doc, wasn't just a coworker, he was a friend, and a mentor. I was blessed to work with his son Kevin who also joined our appraisal group. Doc, loved his family, and his wife Pat was his heart. I learned so much about humanity, wisdom, and caring from this wonderful man. For years after I changed jobs I'd go to visit Doc, and he always had a smile on his face, and warmth in his voice. I will miss this dear man, and he will always hold a special place in my heart.

I was saddened to hear of Doc's passing and would like the whole family to know how I respected him and enjoyed our times together over the many years. Doc was always very kind to my sister and I and would sometimes call me around the holidays or just to say hi. I know this was because he missed his son so much and I was a conduit for him to visit past memories. It was always touching and heartfelt and I'll miss those calls. Doc was fun, funny, loved his family and his Lucy's, was always cordial and made you feel he was truly interested in you and your life. He and Pat gave me my best and only life-long friend and for that I'll always be grateful. He lead a full and interesting life and we will all miss that mischievous nature and smile.

I will always remember Col. Blanshan's devotion to his family and his sense of humor. When I was in middle school, he would act up in church in ways that were not obvious to others. When he was behind me in line for communion, he would gently press his clasped hands into my back and try to slowly push me into the person in front of me. It was nearly impossible not to step too far forward. He would also sing very loudly and slightly off key. If you caught his eye, he would look up as though he were looking to the heavens, but it was really his way of secretly acknowledging that he was singing off key on purpose. I was always on my toes when he was around because I knew how much my own father respected him and I also knew that something silly could happen at any moment. I especially remember our joint family ski trip to Austria and our trip to London. He was a remarkable and irrepressible person and I will cherish my memories of him. I loved reading what the family wrote--it was very touching. You are lucky to have had such a wonderful father and grandfather.
