Obituary of Norma Pricilla Sertich
SERTICH, Norma Pricilla (87 yrs-old)
passed away peacefully into eternal life the afternoon of June 12, 2020 while holding her devoted husband’s hand. Norma fought Multiple Myeloma (blood cancer) for the past nine years, but succumbed to COVID-19. Born to Pascual and Ramona in Agua Prieta, Sonora, Mexico, she is survived by her husband of sixty four years, Richard; sister, Ofelia (Alfonso) Romero; brothers, Pascual Yrrizarry and Alejo (Linda) Yrrizarry; and six siblings who passed before age two, Ana Virginia, Gloria, twins Maria Teresa and Ana Socorro, Arturo and Tomas; five loving children, David (Catherine), Steven (Pamela), Richard (Sandy), Marie/Teri Leal (Dennis) and Virginia/Ginny Clarke (Todd), as well as eleven beautiful grandchildren and their spouses, seventeen great grandchildren, twenty four devoted nieces and nephews, extended family members, and countless friends that were like family.
Norma grew up in Paul Spur, Pirtleville, and Douglas, Arizona before moving to Tucson to attend St. Mary’s School of Nursing. It was during this time that Norma met the love of her life, Richard, on a blind date, while he was stationed at Davis-Monthan with the Air Force. They married and raised a beautiful family. Norma loved helping others, and after graduating from St. Mary’s, she worked as a nurse for Dr. Edmudo Felix. Later, she was a receptionist for Dan’s Orthopedic Service, and the Leals became close family friends. Faith played a central role in their lives, and Norma and Richard were Charter Members and active participants of Our Mother of Sorrows Parish for over 60 years. From Dixieland Jazz to Mariachis, Country Western to Pop, Norma loved all music! She enjoyed movies, books, nature, colorful clothing, cooking, traveling, and dancing, especially with her husband. Her caring heart and selfless love led her to write over 300 greeting cards a year to family and friends. Norma learned to text just so she could stay in touch with the “young people,” as she called them. The joy of Norma’s life was her family, and she relished every moment she had with them. Norma always said, “Every day is a gift.”
The family would like to express that Norma was the most beautiful soul to ever walk the face of the earth, and her loss has left a deep void in their hearts and that of anyone who ever met her. Norma loved deeply and fiercely, and never met a stranger. All were blessed by her unconditional love and acceptance of every human being. Her intense faith in our Lord Jesus and her devotion to the Catholic Church radiated from her like a beautiful light. She was made of pure love. All should rejoice in knowing that Norma is no longer suffering, but is instead dancing and singing with the Angels!
