When our family move to Tucson on the Eastside around 1970-71 the first family I met was the King family. I had no idea how that family would impact my
life. Mr. and Mrs. King from day one treated me like family. Mr. King would set up a military tent for us to sleep in when I spent the night, Mrs. King would have breakfast at the ready in the morning and if you ever had the opportunity to taste Mrs. Kings cooking you know your blessed.
Wayne and Robert share a friendship that began in 3rd/4th grade. Through the years we played sports together and it was always nice to see Mr. & Mrs. king at our track meets or Basketball games, they were always there to support. Robert and Wayne were college roommates with me at one time or another and Robert and I room together at a time after college.
Wayne and I received a partial academic scholarship to the UofA from the Alpha Phi Alph fraternity our senior year and of course at the luncheon at the UofA was Mr. and Mrs. King. They were at my graduation from High School, my Graduation from Eastern Arizona College and my 10 year wedding anniversary.
I say all of that to say this, you don’t have to have biology in your blood to be a parent or role model to
Other people’s children. Mr. and Mrs. king just loved those who spent time with their kids and wanted the best for us.
I’m so Grateful for their presence in my life and losing Mr. King gives me a heavy heart but the memories of what he meant to me and the respect and love he showed overrides the hurt.
A couple a years ago I had a hip replacement. 4 hours after the surgery I’m walking down the hall with a walker. I’m focus on my task but look up and say to myself “That guy looks like Mr. King” and guess what it was. Mr. and Mrs. King came to visit me. That moment made my day to the point I’m tearing while I type.
Here I am 57 years old and these two wonderful people
I met when I was in 3rd grade felt the need to visit me.
Mr. King, God place us in positions to be a blessing to others. I’m so glad he put you in my life. You and Mrs King are Eastside Royalty and all of us kids are better people because of your influence. I almost forgot to mention working at St. Joseph Hospital with Mr. King.
It was always nice to see his face and get caught up with life.
So with all that Mr King, Thank you from the bottom of my heart for being a role model, for making me feel at home in your home and taking the time to support me in life.
Good and Faithful servant well done.
The pics are one from my Graduation day at EAC, you can see my Dad speaking with Mr. & Mrs King with Wayne in the background.

We extend our heartfelt expressions of sadness for the loss of your love one. Know that we loved him also! “King” was more than a friend, he was a coach, and a mentor. He was an inspiration both personally and professionally. King was a gift! We mourn with you the loss. We pray that you will find comfort in knowing that he is at peace. God loves him, God loves you and so do we!
