Warren D. Nielson
Warren “Donnie” Nielson passed away peacefully at his home on March 1st at the age of 90. Warren was born Dec 23, 1930, the first child born at the Safford Hospital in Arizona. He grew up in Bisbee Arizona and went to high school in Seattle Washington. He joined the National Guard at 15, by concealing his age and at 18 joined the Airforce. He served in both Korea and Vietnam Wars. During his 30-year military career he was stationed in Japan, Germany, California, British Columbia and finally retiring from Davis Monthan AFB in Tucson AZ. Warren also retired from IBM in 1995.
One of the great privileges of his life was to travel on the Honor Flight with other Veterans to Washington DC. He loved his friends, family and traveling around Arizona!
Warren was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Elaine and his daughter Shelly. Warren is survived by his son Ron, (Chrystal), his daughter Becky, his grandchildren Amanda, Tanner, Antionio, Annika, Dane and Jeremy and his great grandchildren Jayden and Jace. Warren also leaves behind his girlfriend and companion for the last 8 years, Jeanne Choquette and her family, who loved Warren like a member of their own family.
There will be a service on April 9th at the Arizona Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery in Marana. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Arizona Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery Foundation, Inc. (AVMC Foundation)
