Obituary of Stanley M. Green
Stanley Mahlon Green

Stan Green died suddenly but peacefully with his children at his side on
November 8, 2012. He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Phyllis
Palacio Green; his mother, Gertrude Holland; father, W. Russell Green; and
sister, Trudell Brown. He is survived by his brother, David Holland
(Marilyn) Buffalo, NY; his daughter, Betsy, Tucson; and sons Scott (Julie),
Sterling, VA, and Stephen, Tucson. He leaves behind four grandchildren,
Keil (Katherine), Holly, Jennifer and Amanda and four great grandchildren.
Stan was born in Philadelphia, PA and attended both Friends Central and
George School. He earned a BA in Education from Ursinus College, and a
Masters from NYU. During World War II, after having completed the V-12
program at Ursinus and 3 months training at Columbia University, he spent 1
½ years in the Pacific as gunnery officer on LST 1002 participating in the
Okinawa campaign and post-war activities in Japan and China. Following the
war, Stan joined the Naval Reserve where he served for 28 years retiring in
1970 as a Commander.
Stan began his teaching career at Sharon Hill High School, PA before moving
to Central Bucks High School, Doylestown, PA in 1952 where he created one of
the nation’s first school based driver education programs. He also taught
social studies, coached sports and served as Student Activities Advisor. He
retired from teaching in the 1970’s, as a guidance counselor at Central
Bucks East. Additionally, he taught private driving lessons and ran the
driver training program at George School, Newtown, PA.
Before moving to Tucson in 1996, Stan and Phyllis lived in Elkton, MD. They
enjoyed extensive travel throughout the US and Europe as well as playing
golf, attending UA sporting events, and watching NFL football, especially
games refereed by their son Scott. A Memorial Service is scheduled for
Saturday, November 17, 2012, 3:00 pm, Sunrise Chapel, Wrightstown Rd. In
lieu of flowers, donations to the Wounded Warriors Project or Sunrise Chapel
would be appreciated. Arrangements by BRING’S MEMORIAL CHAPEL.
