Obituary of Virginia M. Retrum

Virginia May Retrum was born August 17, 1931 to Catherine and Lester Stringer in Collinsville, Illinois. She went to be with the Lord on February 7, 2012. She attended school in Collinsville, Illinois and Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, Illinois. She graduated in 1953 with a degree in elementary education, and taught kindergarten for 9 ½ years in Long Beach, California. She married Ernest G. Retrum, Jr. in 1958. They have two children, Christopher (Marcella) of Vail, AZ and Kristina (David) Elsaesser of Clarksville, Maryland. She has seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. The family moved to Tucson in 1962 and Virginia taught religious education at St. Cyril, St. Pius X, and St. Francis de Sales where she was a member of the choir. She loved playing tennis at Centre Court and La Mariposa as well as taking yoga classes. She was active with and was an almuna of the Sigma Sigma Sigma Sorority. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. on Monday, February 13, 2012 with a Rosary to be said at 7:00 p.m. at BRINGS BROADWAY CHAPEL, 6910 E. Broadway Blvd. Mass will be offered at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, February 14, 2012 at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 1375 S. Camino Seco. Burial to follow in Our Lady of The Desert Cemetery.
