Obituary of Doug DeWitt
Marion L. (Doug) DeWitt, SMS, USAF Ret. was born October 5, 1931 to Dora Mae Ritter DeWitt and James Monroe DeWitt in Versailles, Illinois. He attended schools in Brown County. Marion entered the United States Air Force in 1948. He spent 18 years as an Air Training Command Instructor in APG and Egress Aircraft Systems and seven years as an aircraft maintenance supervisor. He served in Japan, Peru, Pakistan, Portugal, Thailand, and the Philippines. After 27 years of service Marion retired in 1975. After serving in the USAF, Marion attended Pima Community College earning an associate’s degree in Business Administration.
Tucson had been Marion’s home since 1971. After his retirement he enjoyed traveling the United States.
He is survived by his wife of 71 years Helen Stephens DeWitt and their three daughters: Judith Gaye DeWitt, Stephanie Gene Henderson and husband Robert, Marion Laverne Lowe and husband Gary, five grandchildren: Kara Smelkoff, Jessica Bearden, Seth Henderson, Melissa Waychoff, and Jarrod Lowe, and eleven great grandchildren: Isabella Ammons, Catherine Ammons, Caroline Ammons, Micah Bearden, Katie Bearden, Madison Waychoff, Brayden Waychoff, Noah Henderson, Jonah Henderson, Asa Henderson, and Daniella Lowe.
