Obituary of Clifford D Smith

Clifford D Smith passed peacefully with family by his side Friday evening, December 23rd, a day and a half before his 85th birthday on Christmas. Cliff was born in Orange California and came to Tucson as a teenager graduating from Tucson High School and attending the University of Arizona. Cliff is survived by his wife Jacqueline "Jacqui", his children: Deborah Mayhew (Kevin), Paul Stapleton-Smith (Shari), Laury Watson (Vince), Ken Smith (Terry), Cheryl Glenn (Steve); stepson Jeff Durham (Tina) and step son-in-law Don Rhodus. He was so proud and loved his large family of over 25 grandchildren and around 40 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters, Janet Booher and Mary Brensinger (Roger) and many extended family and friends. Cliff was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary G Smith in 2001. Cliff (also known as Smitty) was proud of his career as a police officer, first with Tucson Police Department and after his retirement working for the Tucson Airport Authority and for the Department of Corrections working with teenage boys. He often told us he loved going to work because each day was different, never boring. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police. Cliff was a member of Christ Community Church serving as an usher for many years and was very active with the Sojourner's group of senior adults until his health kept him from attending any longer. Cliff was also a member of Epsilon Sigma Alpha, a philanthropic organization, and was the first male member of ESA in Arizona. He loved traveling to the summer conventions and taking cruises with the Sojourners. We will miss his smile and sparkling blue eyes. 

Celebration of Life service will be at Christ Community Church, January 21,2023 at 2:00 p.m. with a reception following. Address is 530 S Pantano Road. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St Jude Children's Research Hospital or the Cliff and Jacqui Smith Family Endowment through the ESA Foundation for scholarships.
