Obituary of Emil T. Lamanda

Lamanda, Emil Thomas 88, of Tucson AZ passed away peacefully in his sleep on the morning of February 5, 2023. 

Emil was born in Queens New York, raised in New York City, graduated from Mount Saint Michael Academy in the Bronx.  In 1957 he enlisted in the Army which brought him to AZ where he was stationed at Ft Huachuca.  In 1959 he was hired by the Tucson Fire Dept where he served the city’s residents for 30 years, retiring as a Fire Captain.  In May of 1960, he married his beloved wife, Barbara and they had 58 wonderful years together. 

Later in life, the duo worked with engaged couples and helped them prepare for the commitment of Christian marriage through the Sponsor Couples program at St. Pius X Church. 

Emil was an avid Yankees fan and loved to watch them play whether in person or on TV. 

He was preceded in death by his wife Barbara (nee Popson), his mother Concetta (nee Catalano), his father Emil Louis, his sister Anne Marie Fagen, his step-mother Julia (nee Caruso) Intrieri, and step-brother Nicholas Intrieri.  He is survived by his step-brother Pasquale Intrieri, his children Emil (Sharon) Lamanda, Tina (Luke) Caron and Michael (Gigi) Lamanda; three grandchildren Ariana (Paul) Neff, Becca (Garrett) Gallagher, Gabriella Lamanda and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. 

Friends may pay their respects on Friday, February 24, 2023 at Brings Broadway Chapel

(6910 E. Broadway Blvd.) from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m.  A rosary will start at 7 p.m. 

A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, February 25th at 10:00 am at St. Pius X Catholic Church (1800 N. Camino Pio Decimo) followed by burial at Holy Hope Cemetery Mausoleum.
