Obituary of June Phillips Scouten

June Phillips Scouten, 05.01.1930 – 12.26.2023

Our beautiful, caring and amazing mother, June, passed away surrounded by her loving family.

She is survived by her daughters, Debi (Mark) Stratton, Kim (Ron) Gressley and son, Randy (Stacy) Scouten; grandchildren, Chad (Kelly) Gressley, Kevin (Stephanie) Gressley, Eric (Taliesin) Stratton, Travis Stratton, Carissa Stratton, Cason Scouten, Jake Scouten and great-grandchildren Jackson, Sawyer, Mackenzie, Byron, Raelynn and Ripley.

June was born in Washington D.C. and grew up in Drexel Hill, PA. She attended Swarthmore College for one year before transferring to Penn State University where she met her loving husband of 61 years, Bert. She was proud to be a Nittany Lion (1952), earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education. In 1976 she earned her Real Estate license. She valued education and was a life-long learner.

For several years she taught 3rd and 4th grade students in PA before becoming a mother. In 1965, the family moved to Tucson where June focused on taking art classes and developing her artistic talents through charcoal, watercolors, pastels, and oil mediums. She loved painting portraits and landscapes that highlighted her love of the desert southwest.

Real estate became her career of choice. As a realtor/associate broker of Eureka Realty, she particularly enjoyed home sales. She served on the Tucson Board of Women Realtors, served as President, produced an annual variety show and mentored countless young realtors. At the end of her career she sold homes through Coldwell Banker Success.

For 23 years, she and Bert maintained a two acre parcel a block from home where horses and sheep were raised and enjoyed by their children. She supported 4-H activities, Girl Scouts, sports, and especially church life. June loved to travel, host the dinner bridge group, direct performances for Christ Presbyterian church, paint, swim and enjoy family time. June spent time in retirement focused on volunteering with her church, serving Meals on Wheels and helping out with various other organizations.

She was a faithful follower of Jesus Christ. As she basks in the beauty of heaven, we will never forget all the memories and stories that remind us of her unique life. June was truly spunky, loving, funny, supportive and had the kindest spirit.

A Memorial Service will be held for family and friends at Christ Presbyterian Church, 6565 E. Broadway, on Saturday, Februrary 17, 2024. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to Christ Presbyterian Church or the charity of your choice.
