I just saw this Obit while searching old friends on the net.
Please accept my belated condolences.
Willy was a great friend throughout our years at Holy Family School in Orange, CA.
Always a great student and athlete. We were in a very close group especially through grades 5-8.
I have some photos of our HFS flag football teams but can't seem to locate them.
I spent a few nights at his home and was treated very warmly by his parents.
I lost my older brother aged 57 years and just lost my younger brother aged 57 years.
Time passes but the love and memories don't.

Willy was a good man and Love his family (especially his children) very much. He was very proud of all the things his children did and bragged about them at work... He was a good engineer (especially in vibe equipment) and a great cube mate... He will be deeply missed by everyone at work (both current and retired) that knew him...

Willy was an engineer, a co-worker, and a friend. He was good and passionate at all of his roles. As a engineer, he was always solving problems, as a co-worker, he was supporting "The Team", and as a friend, he would offer any help or support in times of need "The Wingman". He loved his family and would do whatever it took to support them. My condolences to his family. He will be missed. Rest I peace my friend. Thank you for all the memories.

From childhood and through life Willie overcame physical pain most people can scarcely imagine and still managed to outwork almost everyone I’ve ever known. The influence and example of Willie’s strength will live on in those who had the honor to know him.

Willy took the extra time to teach me as a young engineer and help me out when I needed it. He's a wonderful person and I'm proud to have called him my friend. Rest in peace Willy.

Willy was a true engineer. He told stories about living in California with such a happy remembrance that he made me nostalgic for a place and time I never lived in. That California Tech ethos was part of who he was, and made him the "work long, odd hours in the garage making cool things work" kind of engineer. When I transferred to Tucson, I was sent to him for my first assignment. That lead to years of working together, and when I switched assignments, to many more years of friendship.
Willy just kept working. He wasn't the first one in the door, but he was always the last one out. More than once I had to tap out at 10 pm or later at night, telling him I was falling asleep. Willy would be arms deep inside of another ancient, hulking equipment bay filled with unmarked cables snaking in random directions, Frankenstein-ing in some new equipment and rewiring based on old, mislabeled drawings. He would unify the oldest tech with the newest, then through the sheer force of will and a remembrance of archaic and antique programming languages, he would wrestle it to life and against all odds, make it work.
Willy was never going to be a manager. He was made to build things in a lab, not manage timecards and sit in meetings. He wasn't a natural teacher. But if you worked with him enough and asked, he would answer every question, he would explain why he was doing things, he would begin to ask you questions or to do things that guided you to the answer, and he would slowly trust you to work on the equipment he took great pride and ownership in. He would let you give instructions to his baby, but as you typed, Willy's fingers would be twitching out the same letters like a nervous father.
Willy never talked about his personal life at work. That came later, when we started grabbing lunch and dinner. Even after we parted ways, he'd call or text a couple times a week, and we'd grab a bite. It was during those times that I'd learn about his love of old and classic cars, his faith and support of the Catholic Church and their school (and found myself dragged to a few events), and the deep love of his children, and later his grandchildren. Of all the things he talked about, he was proudest of watching his kids grow up and become adults with lives of their own. He'd tell me how much he enjoyed the ski trips with them, the time he got alone with them when driving cross-country, or how he was flying off across the country for another few days to listen to a single music recital. You could see the stress of the day disappear as he boasted about their lives.
Willy was a selfless man. He had a favorite Chevy HHR he loved driving around with his racing gloves on. We'd get in, get ready for rush hour stop-and-go traffic on crowded city streets....and he'd strap on the gloves while looking at me with a gleam in his eye. But when one of his kids needed a reliable vehicle, he gave it away without a thought, picking up an old, beat up pickup truck that needed lots of work. He kept the gloves.
Willy was a good friend, and a great person. When I needed help or a favor, he was there. I will miss him greatly. My condolences to his friends and family.

Willie,
We sat near each other for many years - listening to each others trials at work.
You were always friendly to whomever needed your assistance.
You were proud of your shrinking mortgage and how well your children were doing in their life's pursuits.
Looking back on some of your political posts today I now realize some of them are quite funny. Not sure I appreciated them as much when they were posted. Thank you for your wry humor and your friendship,
Bob

The little time that I knew you, you proved to be a great man and a very good engineer. I'll miss our jokes about famous characters of the Old West. How great is that, that you get to meet them all now, with your youth intact, forever! I'll see you again, out there among the stars one day. Rest for now.

Willy and I made several road trips together across the desert after the company moved in 1994. He would pull up in my driveway on Sunday afternoon in his van with tin foil taped to the windows. Guess that was the Engineer in him. Having him along for the ride always made the trip easier. Great Engineer to work with for 20+ years. I’ll miss him.
